Artful Dialogues: A Field Inquiry

Partner:

Out of Hand Theater

April 28, 2025

About the collaboration

Out of Hand Theater is an Atlanta-based company using participatory theater and storytelling to foster connection, spark dialogue, and move people to action, often in unexpected places. From living rooms to schools, their work meets people where they are.

Social Resonance Lab is partnering with Out of Hand Theater to explore, document, and support their unique approach to social impact storytelling. Together, we’re looking at how creative, community-driven practices can build empathy, bridge divides, and create the conditions for change.

What we're working on

→ A narrative case study capturing Out of Hand’s methodology and impact
→ Strategic language to help Out of Hand share their story with funders, partners, and new audiences
→ Facilitated workshops to surface core messaging, values, and narrative anchors
→ Ongoing communications support rooted in audience-first, values-driven storytelling
→ A framework for thinking about storytelling as a form of civic infrastructure

Why it matters

At Social Resonance Lab, we believe storytelling isn’t just a communication tool, it’s relational work. It’s how we build trust, belonging, and shared understanding, especially across difference. Out of Hand Theater exemplifies this practice in ways both joyful and deeply grounded. This collaboration is part of our broader exploration of what it means to design for empathy, not just in what we say, but in how we gather, listen, and tell stories together.
